Ever since Kia unveiled the production-spec iteration of its EV9 electric SUV, car enthusiasts have been intrigued by the tech on board. One of the EV’s most interesting tech features is the second-row swivel seats, which can rotate 180 degrees to face the rear third-row seats. However, this won’t be sold in the U.S. market, as the nifty option doesn’t meet that country’s federal motor vehicle safety standards.

The Kia EV9 electric SUV won’t get the unique second-row swivel seats in the US because it doesn’t comply with the country’s federal laws.

This technology was prominently showcased during the world premiere of the Kia EV9. Unfortunately, as it says, it won’t be available in one of the automaker’s key markets due to regulations there. Interestingly, Kia showed off the EV9 at the 2023 New York Auto Show, but didn’t show the feature, reports CarBuzz.

However, despite missing out on this feature, the Kia EV9 is expected to find many buyers in the North American market. In the U.S., those looking for an electric car that seats six or seven people can choose from the Tesla Model X and the Rivian R1S. They all come with a price tag that burns money. However, the addition of Kia EV9 will bring them more choices and will also challenge the two aforementioned EVs.

With planned local production in Georgia, the Kia EV9 will be eligible for EV tax credits in the US, meaning it will be an affordable option for consumers compared to the Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S. The Kia EV9 is expected to cost around $55,000 in the US when it launches.

As part of Hyundai Group’s global vehicle electrification strategy, Kia aims to significantly electrify its lineup. The Kia EV9 is expected to play a key role in this. The EV9 was shown in concept form at the Auto Expo 2023 in India earlier this year.
