In a surprise move, KTM India has launched the new 390 Adventure X adventure tourer, priced at ¥280,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).The new KTM 390 Adventure X is a more affordable ADV version and an overall ¥58,000 cheaper than the standard version. The big problem here, however, is that the X variant doesn’t have most of the electronic aids available on the motorcycle.
The 2023 KTM 390 Adventure X retains the basics, including full LED lighting, dual-channel ABS with off-road mode, slipper clutch and 12-volt USB outlet. However, the motorcycle misses out on the TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, replaced by an LCD screen. Electronic driver aids are also flawed, including traction control, multiple driving modes, cornering ABS, throttle-by-wire and quickshifter. The official launch has yet to take place.

KTM is also preparing a spoked wheel version of the 390 Adventure which will arrive soon with lower suspension
Though lacking in electronic aids, the KTM 390 Adventure X retains the same 373.2 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine tuned to 42.9 bhp at 9,000 rpm and peak torque of 37 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The motor is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike also features 43mm USD forks and a rear monoshock, while braking performance comes from a single 320mm front and 230mm rear disc. The bike retains a 14.5-litre fuel tank and a curb weight of 177kg.
The new kit makes the KTM 390 Adventure X even more popular, especially for those who want a no-frills, capable adventure touring bike. The new pricing will also help the model compete strongly with the BMW G 310 GS.That said, the 390 Adventure X variant is now only ¥36,000 more expensive than the KTM 250 Adventure. Need to see if sales between these two models cannibalize each other.
Interestingly, KTM is also working on launching a spoked wheel version of the 390 Adventure later this month, along with a lowered suspension to appeal to more Indian riders. We look forward to an official announcement soon.
