Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV

Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled its first all-electric vehicle. The luxurious EQS 680 SUV is designed to provide maximum comfort – especially for those with a driver behind – and effortless electric performance.

Equipped with two electric motors and four-wheel drive, the EQS 680 produces a mighty 649 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from 0-62mph takes just 4.4 seconds, and the range on a full charge is up to 373 miles.

Mercedes-Benz’s flagship SUV is arguably the world’s most luxurious electric SUV — at least until battery-powered versions of the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan arrive.

Starting with the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, the Maybach features lots of extra chrome and an imposing front grille. The illuminated sideboard and alloy wheels with a diameter of 22 inches also add to the shine.

Mercedes-Maybach’s ‘double M’ logo is even incorporated into the front bumper air intakes in a look that seems inspired by high-end luggage and handbags.

However, it’s the 680’s interior that really sets it apart from the regular Mercedes-EQ version. It has a Maybach-specific version of the full-width MBUX Hyperscreen for infotainment. The digital instrument panel also has custom rose gold surrounds and hands, “designed to resemble a silk scarf that flutters gracefully in the wind”.

Vegetable-tanned Nappa leather is used for the first time in the Maybach EQS, while other elements of the interior come from recycled or sustainable materials.

The two individual seats are separated by a large “floating” center console. Passengers can appreciate an 11.6-inch multimedia screen, as well as active ambient lighting that automatically adjusts throughout the day.

A Burmester 4D sound system with 15 speakers is standard, while those sitting in the back have their own dedicated headphones. Extensive sound insulation has been installed around the rear of the cabin, helping cocoon occupants to isolate from road noise.

Mercedes has yet to announce prices for the Maybach EQS 680 SUV, but expect the existing EQS 580 4Matic SUV to cost £153,495.
