Volvo India is all set to launch its second electric car, the C40 Recharge, in India on June 14. Upon arrival, it will be launched in the country alongside the brand’s first electric vehicle, the XC40 Recharge EV. Volvo India has witnessed strong demand for the XC40 Recharge. The automaker claims that 150 units of the locally assembled XC40 Recharge were sold in India within two hours of its launch. Buoyed by the positive response to the XC40 Recharge, Volvo is betting big on the C40 Recharge.

The Volvo C40 Recharge will help the automaker increase its market share in India’s luxury EV market, which also hosts other brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. Volvo could assemble the new C40 Recharge at its Hoskote plant near Bengaluru to keep prices in check.

Volvo C40 Recharge EV: Expected price
The Volvo XC40 Recharge EV is priced from ¥5.69 million (ex-showroom), the sticker price of the C40 Recharge EV may be slightly higher.Its pricing range is expected to range from ¥6 million (ex-showroom).
Volvo C40 Recharge EV: Design
The design of the Volvo C40 Recharge looks identical to the XC40 Recharge. It sports a coupe-style sloping roofline, which sets the EV apart from its siblings. The C40 Recharge features Volvo’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED daytime running lights, an enclosed panel instead of a traditional radiator grille and unique vertically oriented LED taillights.
Volvo C40 Recharge EV: Dimensions
Dimensionally, the Volvo C40 Recharge measures 4,440mm long, 1,910mm wide and 1,591mm high. The wheelbase of this EV is 2,702 mm. The coupe SUV gets 19-inch aero wheels.
Volvo C40 Recharge EV: Interior
The Volvo C40 Recharge EV gets a genuine leather-free vegan interior and recycled carpet. Plus, it comes with Volvo’s signature flat, vertical and Google-powered nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is the main highlight in the cabin. Additionally, there is a 12-inch fully digital driver display, dual-zone climate control, a 13-speaker, 600-watt Harman Kardon sound system, and an air purifier. It also comes with a hands-free electric tailgate, wireless charging pad and TPMS.
Volvo C40 Recharge EV: Specifications
The Volvo C40 recharge EV is available with a choice of two different powertrains: RWD and AWD. The car is available globally with two different battery pack options. What the car company brings to India remains to be seen.
The automaker brought back RWD after 25 years with the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge. The entry-level C40 Recharge RWD model comes with a 69 kWh battery pack and electric motor producing 238 PS of peak power and a range of 476 kilometers on a single charge. Volvo claims it can charge 10-80% in 34 minutes.
AWD variants are more powerful and offer more range than RWD variants. It comes with a larger 82 kWh battery pack that produces 252 PS and offers a range of 533 kilometers on a single charge. Volvo claims the battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes using a 200kW charging infrastructure.
Volvo C40 Recharge EV: Safety
Like its siblings with combustion engines and electric powertrains, the Volvo C40 Recharge has a number of safety features backed by advanced technology. It comes with front, curtain, side and driver’s knee airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, ADAS and a 360-degree camera, and hill-start assist tech.
