Tata Motors continues to lead the passenger electric four-wheeler market in India. In April, the automaker sold 6,516 electric vehicles, including the Tiago EV, Nexon EV and Tigor EV. It was the automaker’s highest sales ever in the EV segment. It beat the previous record of 6,506 set last month. Tata Motors is now far ahead of competitors such as MG Motor and Hyundai Motor in the field of electric passenger vehicles.
Sales jumped 179% compared to last April, thanks to the launch of the Tiago EV late last year. In April last year, Tata Motors’ electric vehicles found 2,333 households across India. Tata Motors’ EV sales accounted for more than 13% of its total sales in April. This is the highest EV ratio of any automaker selling EVs in India.
The Tiago EV is the latest addition to Tata Motors’ electric vehicle portfolio in India.Launched last year, the Tiago EV is one of the most affordable EVs in the country, priced from ¥869 thousand (ex-showroom) and rising to ¥1.199 million (ex-showroom). MG Comet EV, launched last month with an entry price of ¥The 798k (ex-showroom) is currently the only EV that costs less than the Tiago EV.
Tata offers the Tiago EV in seven wide trims and comes with two sizes of battery packs. The Tata Tiago EV has a range of between 250km and 315km, depending on the battery pack. The compact sedan sibling offers a range of 306 kilometers on a single charge. The Tiago EV offers 74 horsepower and 114 Nm of peak torque. It is capable of 0-60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. EVs are capable of charging 10-80% in 57 minutes, which is the fastest, depending on various factors.

In terms of sales, the Nexon EV has won over more consumers in India. Available in Standard, EV Max, EV Prime and Dark Edition variants, the electric SUV is the best-selling EV in India. The Tigor EV is the only sedan in the segment to feature an electric avatar.
