TVS is currently awaiting approval from the European Union and local authorities to launch its planned product in the country. The automaker further said that once EU and local authority approvals for the prototype are in place, it will launch the Euro 5 compliant two-wheeler there.

The Euro 5 emission standard is synonymous with BS-5, and India skips BS-4 and directly implements BS-6 emission standard. Meanwhile, in India, the two-wheeler maker is working on cleaner and greener powertrain technologies. At the ethanol technology exhibition organized by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), TVS Motor Company has hinted that it is seriously considering the idea of bringing flex-fuel drive products into its two-wheeler lineup. Interestingly, TVS has already launched a motorcycle powered by a flex-fuel engine, but this time, it aims to expand technology penetration.

KN Radhakrishnan, CEO of TVS Motor Company, said the company expects mass production of flexible fuel engine products to become a reality by 2024. He also said that by September or October 2024, the company would aim to mass-produce two-wheelers with flexible fuel engines. He hinted that other two-wheeler makers in India are working on similar technologies that will allow future products with flex-fuel engines to run on both petrol and ethanol, leading to better environmental adoption in the sector.
