Coryton SUSTAIN fuel

The UK’s first publicly available range of sustainable fuels is now available at the Bicester Heritage Center in Oxfordshire.

Coryton Sustain Classic fuel allows classic car driver Power their vehicles with plant-based gasoline—without modifying the car’s engine.

Three types of petrol are available with up to 80% renewable content. Coryton engineers have committed to using the most sustainable products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65% compared to fossil fuels.

The petrol has an octane rating of 98 RON – equivalent to super unleaded – but it’s certainly not cheap. Prices start from £3.80 a liter – over £17 a gallon…

biofuels from waste

Coryton Sustain sustainable fuel

Coryton fuel is a second generation biofuel made from agricultural by-products. These include straw and waste crops that are not intended for consumption.

These fuels thus use carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere that is absorbed as plants grow – rather than releasing additional carbon dioxide locked in underground fossil fuels.

They also contain low levels of bio-ethanol, less than 1%, and are specially designed to preserve vintage vehicles.

There are around 500,000 classic cars in the UK and such fuels could enhance their future sustainability. However, Coryton added that any vehicle that runs on standard forecourt fuel can use the fuel, not just classic models.

a little help

David Richardson, director of business development at Coryton, said: “By replacing fossil fuels with sustainable fuels, every kilogram of CO2 we avoid sending into the atmosphere is a victory.”

“We don’t have to do a full switch right away to start making a real impact. As more feedstock becomes available, these fuels will start to contain higher levels of traceable sustainable elements.”

The current availability of truly fossil fuel-free ingredients is limited, but development is ongoing, he added.

“The industry will make it happen with the right support – which is why we think it’s important to start getting these products into the hands of consumers so they can see how easy and effective this transition can be.”
