Updated Porsche ROADS app

Porsche has announced a major update to its Roads smartphone app, designed to help drivers find the most scenic routes.

First launched by Porsche in 2019, the free app has gained more than 180,000 users worldwide. It allows drivers to form communities and meet in the real world to explore new roads.

Compatible with Apple CarPlay, it also offers route guidance for driving pleasure, especially in a Porsche.

A key part of the latest Roads update is the Scenic Route Generator, which uses a new algorithm to tailor routes to individual driver preferences. Beautiful scenery, spectacular views and “unspoilt villages” are promised.

According to Robert Ader, Porsche’s chief marketing officer, the algorithm “allows fans to find their dream route with just a few clicks.

“Artificial intelligence works out a suitable route based on various parameters, such as road curves, terrain, landscape features or exciting points of interest. From their starting point, users can plan a circuit route or navigate to a specific destination – whatever Where in the world are they?”

Drivers are able to specify exactly how demanding and dynamic they want the road to be, then save and evaluate the resulting route.

The best ones can also be shared with other app users, benefiting the wider Roads community.

App shortcuts can be used to find the most popular roads and suggest “route of the week” for extra inspiration.

There is no need to own a Porsche use the app, but Roads is currently only available on Apple iOS smartphones. An Android version is said to be in the works.
