The Volvo EX30 is the smallest electric car in the Swedish automaker’s lineup. It’s also the fastest of all models, with a 0-100 kmph time of just 3.4 seconds.

Volvo’s smallest electric SUV, the EX30, is 4.23 meters long, about 20 centimeters shorter than the XC40 Recharge. Still, the EX30 offers decent interior space thanks to its relatively long wheelbase. The electric SUV now joins the XC40 Recharge, India’s C40 Recharge in Volvo’s global EV lineup. It will also be joined soon by the upcoming EX90 electric SUV.

Design-wise, the EX30 has all the typical hallmarks of a Volvo car. The front is minimalist with a closed grille and Volvo logo. LED headlights feature the signature Thor’s hammer shape, while at the rear, taillights wrap around the tailgate and part of the C-pillar.

The interior also has a very minimalist design. Dominating the cabin are two elements – the steering wheel with a flat top and bottom, and the central 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The screen is vertically oriented and it houses all the controls including climate, navigation and multimedia. Volvo doesn’t offer any driver displays behind the steering wheel. One of the more unique things about the cabin, however, is that Volvo didn’t put a single button on the dashboard.

The infotainment system was co-developed with Google. It comes standard with integrated services such as Google Maps, Spotify, YouTube. People can also install other apps from the Google Play Store.

The Volvo EX30 will offer two battery pack options. The base version is a single motor that produces 272 horsepower. It comes with a 51 kWh battery that helps the electric SUV deliver a range of 344 kilometers on a single charge. The battery is made from lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and uses no cobalt, making it more affordable than regular EV batteries.

The single-motor range-extended version uses the same electric motor but installs a larger 69 kWh battery pack. It promises a range of 480 kilometers. The top-of-the-line version of the Twin Motor Performance line features twin electric motors producing 428 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, faster than any previous Volvo. A single charge provides a range of 460 kilometers.

The Volvo EX30 will support a charging capacity of 134 kW. The larger battery versions support fast charging at up to 153 kW, enabling them to charge from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes.
