Hyundai has been working on a new Kona EV for some time. The small electric crossover has been unveiled but has yet to reach dealerships. The EV is expected to reach dealerships after its combustion-engine-powered sibling. At the same time, a video has been circulating on the Internet, showing the real situation of pure electric vehicles in the wild, without any disguise. A video posted on YouTube shows a Hyundai Kona EV driving down a Southern California highway.
This is the first public display of the new and improved Hyundai Kona EV. The electric crossover made its global debut late last year and was shown at the New York Auto Show in April. The latest video posted online gives us a look at the Koan EV beyond the photo shoot. The video also gives us a chance to get a better look at the Kona EV’s proportions and styling elements.

The EV gets body-color accents on the wheel arches, giving it a wider profile. Plus, there’s the controversial rear clip, where the tailgate sits high across the mirrors. The new Hyundai Kona EV has chunky taillights positioned lower.
The design of the new Hyundai Kona EV has been significantly improved compared to the outgoing model. It houses a 48.6 kWh battery pack that can provide a range of 317 kilometers on a single charge. A larger, more powerful 64.8 kWh battery pack is also an option, extending the Kona EV’s range to around 418 kilometers on a single charge. Power is sent to the front wheels, and there won’t be any all-wheel-drive models for now. The electric vehicle uses 400V fast charging technology, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 43 minutes.
