Yamaha has launched a new scooter in Taiwan called the Augur, which is based on the same platform as the Yamaha Aerox 155 available in India. However, the Yamaha Augur is a more premium offering from the Japanese two-wheeler brand. Despite being based on the same platform and sharing key components with the Yamaha Aerox 155, the overall styling and features of the Augur look sharper and premium.

The Yamaha Augur has futuristic and sharp styling. Its front fascia is dominated by a central LED headlight that looks like it could have been plucked from a Kawasaki H2 superbike. This ultra-aggressive-looking LED headlight has a cornering function and even lets users switch between pure white or warm yellow themes. Additionally, this headlight is said to be equipped with Yamaha Lean Lighting Assist (Y-LLA) technology, which ensures supplemental lighting when the body is leaning while cornering.

The scooter’s overall design has a muscular look, giving the Augur a strong road presence. The scooter also features a 4.3-inch TFT display on the dashboard, Bluetooth connectivity, full keyless functionality, LED taillights and more. Compared to the central spine of the Aerox 155, the Yamaha Augur has a flat plate.

On the safety front, the Yamaha Augur also comes with traction control and ABS along with front and rear disc brakes. The premium scooter’s power source is the same 155 cc liquid-cooled engine found in the Yamaha Aerox 155. Yamaha has not revealed the power and torque output of the scooter, but it is expected to produce 15 hp and 13.9 Nm of torque, the same as the India-spec Aerox 155. At 132kg, the Augur is 6kg heavier than the Aerox and has a larger 6.1-litre fuel tank compared to the Aerox’s 5.5-litre tank.
