BMW Motorrad will celebrate its centenary in 2023, and the German two-wheeler giant is marking the occasion with the launch of its 100th Anniversary Limited Edition. A limited edition motorcycle has also entered the Indian market. The BMW R nineT 100 Year Edition is priced at ¥2.4 million, while the price of the R 18 100-year edition is ¥2.590 million. All prices are ex-showroom prices.

The BMW R nineT and R 18 Limited Editions are limited to 1,923 units each worldwide and can be pre-ordered at any of the company’s dealerships nationwide. The bikes get cosmetic upgrades at a premium over the standard versions of both.

BMW R nineT 100th Anniversary Edition

The BMW R nineT 100 Years Edition features a special paint scheme with black paint and a chrome fuel tank with white double pinstripes. This model also comes with knee pads and a 100 year badge. The seats feature a two-tone finish in black and oxblood, while the fairing continues to feature a chrome finish with dual pinstripes.

The limited-edition R nineT also gets special Option 719 components, including 719 Classic wheels with anodized black rim rings, Option 719 Shadow milled parts pack with milled cylinder head covers, engine housing cover, seat brackets, fuel filler plug and Option 719 Shadow II Milling Parts Kit, including adjustable handlebar and footrest system, rear seat footrests, and expansion tank cap and handlebar end mirror. The motorcycle also has features like adaptive turn signals, heated grips, cruise control and a professional driving mode.

Power for the R nineT 100 Year Edition continues to come from a 1170 cc air/oil cooled flat-twin engine producing 107 bhp at 7,250 rpm and peak torque of 116 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The motor is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, while braking comes from disc brakes with dual-channel ABS at both ends. Motorcycles also have many electronic aids.

BMW R 18 100th Anniversary Edition

Likewise, the BMW R 18 100 Year Edition features a classic chrome paint scheme with white double pinstripes on the fuel tank. Most components on the retro-styled cruiser have a black finish, while you also get 100-year badges and Option 719 seat trim in two-tone black and oxblood. The bike also gets the Chrome design option, handlebar fittings, shifters and foot brake levers, handlebar clamps, handlebar weights, mirrors, brake master cylinder, brake calipers, engine case cover, cylinder head cover and air intake Electroplated surface coating on the manifold trim. The R 18 100 Year Edition also features an Akrapovic exhaust with perforated tailpipes, adaptive turn signals, reverse assist, electronic cruise control and heated handlebars.

The BMW R 18 Limited Edition draws power from the familiar 1,802 cc twin-cylinder Boxer engine producing 90 bhp at 4,750 rpm and peak torque of 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The electric motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox for a top speed of 180 km/h. This cruiser is heavy with a curb weight of 345kg.

BMW chief designer Max Friz put the German manufacturer’s first full-scale motorcycle on the drawing board in December 1922. This led to the brand’s first-ever motorcycle, the R 32, which was revealed to the world in September 1923. The bike is powered by an air-cooled four-stroke twin-cylinder boxer engine, which has been the basis of the brand’s impressively large range of motorcycles for decades.
