With machines, there are accidents. But the steering wheel coming out of its place can be crazy and scary at the same time. That’s exactly what happened to a Tesla owner who was driving his brand new Model Y crossover on the highway when its steering wheel suddenly fell off and landed in his hands. While Tesla ultimately decided to replace the entire car, it will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.

Initially, Tesla did not view the issue as a manufacturing defect. Also, to add insult to injury, the Tesla service center held the owner responsible for the accident and charged him $104 for the repair. Surprisingly, the automaker still claims there are no defects and accepts no liability.

After being accused by a Tesla service center of a possible manufacturing defect on the automaker’s side, the owner tweeted to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, attaching a transcript of his interaction with the service center. screenshot. He also attached the initial bill. After that, the service center eventually reversed the repair fee. Ultimately, a Tesla service center conducted a more detailed investigation of the affected Model T, and the automaker decided to replace the entire vehicle with a new Model Y. The automaker claims the car will be a priority in this case, but provided no information on a potential delivery date.

However, the debate over whose responsibility it is is still an issue between automakers and owners. Tesla sent a letter to the owner saying there was no defect or nonconformity, and it wasn’t actually liable, but it was in good faith. There are no related recalls.

Despite getting a new car, the owner still insists it’s Tesla’s fault. He told NJ.com that he intends to make sure this doesn’t happen to any other family. “They should look into this and make sure what they did wrong doesn’t happen again,” he added.
