2022 has been a fairly quiet year for scooters with internal combustion (ICE) engines. Even though we have e-scooters arriving left, right and in-between, no major two-wheeler player has taken the risk of launching an entirely new product. The only new release comes from new player Keeway, while the domestic scooter giant decided to update the existing version.

So, is this the end for ICE scooters? Absolutely not! Demand is still high, and with charging infrastructure not yet widespread, scooters will remain the bread and butter of many two-wheeler companies. But the lack of brand new products does seem worrisome. Nonetheless, let’s take a look back at the new or refreshed gas-powered scooters coming in 2022.

1. TVS NTorq 125 XT

The TVS NTorq 125 XT is a major update of the popular 125 cc scooter and its most expensive variant.Selling for ¥100,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), approx. ¥23,000 more than the entry-level variant in the NTorq range. For a little more money, the model gets a new neon green paint scheme, updated graphics, lighter alloy wheels in a different design and an updated digital console. The NTorq 125 XT features a new TFT screen and an LCD unit with features such as voice assistance and a tracking function to keep track of notifications on weather, news, cricket, social media and more. The model also comes with IntelliGo start-stop technology with a silent start system. No performance futures or hardware upgrades, though.

2. Key West 300

Entering the Indian market earlier this year, Adishwar Auto Ride India launched Hungarian brand Keeway with its premium scooters. The Keeway Vieste 300 is one of two new products introduced this year. The Vieste 300 was an oversized car powered by a 278 cc single cylinder engine producing 18.4 bhp and 22 Nm of peak torque. It’s big and aggressive, something we haven’t really seen on a scooter yet, while packing some premium equipment, including telescoping front forks and hydraulic suspension at the rear. The model also comes with disc brakes with dual-channel ABS at both ends, keyless ignition, 12-litre fuel tank and more. The Vieste 300 is an expensive proposition, but in ¥299,000 (ex-showroom).

3. Keeway Sixties 300i

The Keeway Sixties 300i is the second new car this year, sharing the same underpinnings as the Vieste 300 but with a more retro theme. Old-school styling makes the Sixties 300i an instant leader, while power comes from the same 278 cc single-cylinder engine as the Vieste 300, with 18.4 bhp and 22 Nm.The feature list also remains the same, as does the asking price ¥299,000 (ex-showroom).

4. Hero Thrill + 110 XTEC

Hero MotoCorp’s big move in the scooter space is the new Vida electric brand. But the company remains an active player in gasoline-powered scooters in its portfolio, and the popular Pleasure+ received a refresh earlier this year. The Hero Pleasure+ 110 XTEC Edition brings some interesting updates to the entry-level scooter, including a new digital console with Bluetooth connectivity. There are also new LED projector headlights that are 25 percent brighter, and new chrome trim and rear seat backrests. The front fenders have also been swapped out for metal for increased durability. The Pleasure+ 110 XTEC is also getting a vibrant Jubilant Yellow color scheme just in time for the holiday season.

5. Suzuki Burgman Street EX

The latest launch in the scooter segment is the new Suzuki Burgman Street EX variant.The price of the new variant is ¥112,000 (ex-Delhi showroom), approx. ¥It is 19000 more expensive than the standard version. The new EX Edition brings huge changes to the scooter, including a new paint scheme and black plastic. The model ended up with larger 12-inch rear tires for improved city riding efficiency and high-speed stability. There are no mechanical changes, power comes from a proven 124 cc single cylinder engine known for its reliability and efficiency. Burman Street has always been a strong choice in the segment and updates are always welcome, although they do come with a premium.
